We are a ministry of CBN that was founded by Terry Meeuwsen after adopting three sisters from the Ukraine. The mission of this ministry is to provide help and hope to orphaned and vulnerable children around the world.
Q. What is the purpose of Orphan’s Promise?
A. Orphan’s Promise reaches out to the orphaned and vulnerable children of this world, instilling a vision in them to see that with God, anything is possible, even the impossible. This is accomplished by using a series of works to enable them to climb out of their poverty and sense of hopelessness, into a life of purpose. To envision themselves as instruments of change for their nation.
Q. Please explain your work. How does Orphan’s Promise help orphans and vulnerable children?
A. Founded in 2005 as a part of the global ministry of CBN International, we work through local, in-country staff, which enables us to provide effective help in a cost-saving manner. We are also able to respond quickly to emergency needs as they arise. In addition, we come alongside orphanages, churches and ministries already working in very poor areas. Orphan’s Promise is focused on helping orphans and other vulnerable children in the following ways:
- Nourishing food, clean water, clothing, and safe housing
- Health care and medical assistance
- Life-skills, vocational, and educational training
- Orphan-prevention assistance to families and caregivers of vulnerable children
- Christian discipleship and moral support
- Orphan and adoption advocacy
Q. Does Orphan’s Promise do child sponsorship?
A. Orphan’s Promise is not structured for individual child-sponsored programs as we do not have the staff to handle this type of one-on-one effort. However, you can read wonderful stories about the children who have been helped by visiting our website at www.orphanspromise.org, and you can keep in contact with us there.
Q. In which countries is Orphan’s Promise working?
A. Orphan’s Promise has worked in over 60 countries including ongoing projects currently in these countries:
- India / China / Philippines / Mongolia / Vietnam / Thailand / Cambodia Kenya / DR Congo / Senegal / Ukraine / Moldova / Romania / Brazil
Q. How can I make a donation to Orphan’s Promise?
977 Centerville Turnpike
Virginia Beach, VA 23463
Q. Can I donate new or used clothing, toys, or linens to Orphan’s Promise?
A. Unfortunately, Orphan’s Promise does not accept clothing, linen, or toy donations. The costs of shipping and clearing customs are prohibitive. CBN has field offices in the 30 countries where we work, and their staff is able to purchase items as needed to assist with clothes, food, school supplies, and other necessities – making this very cost-effective. Your financial gift to Orphan’s Promise of $30 or more a month goes a long way to helping orphans and vulnerable children around the world. Please consider giving today online through www.orphanspromise.org or by calling 1-888-733-3721.
Q. Can you answer my questions about adoption?
A. Because Orphan’s Promise is not involved in the adoption process, we are referring you to the Christian Alliance for Orphans (www.christianalliancefororphans.org), a website resource of many Christian organizations that may be able to assist you with your specific adoption questions. Orphan’s Promise is a member of this alliance, and we trust their information.
Q. How can I adopt a child from the Ukraine?
A. Because Orphan’s Promise is not involved in the adoption process, we are referring you The Gift of Adoption project, a sister organization that specifically handles adoption in the Ukraine. Please contact Karen Springs at this email address: firstname.lastname@example.org
Q. How can I adopt a child that Orphan’s Promise is helping? I saw the child on The 700 Club or read about the child on your website or in a newsletter.
A. Most of the children in our stories are not available for adoption due to restrictions in the countries where they live; others may have one or both parents but live in extreme poverty. Orphan’s Promise is not an adoption agency, but was created to help these vulnerable children. As an Orphan’s Promise partner, you are bringing hope and practical aid to the children in these stories and many more like them.
Q. Can I volunteer for one of your projects or take a mission trip to serve with one of your projects?
A. Unfortunately, we are not able to handle volunteer teams to visit our projects at this time. We appreciate your willing heart to bless the children and suggest connecting with your local church for opportunities to volunteer.
Q. Are there any job openings with Orphan’s Promise?
A. Job postings can be found on CBN’s website, http://www.cbn.com/employment/index.aspx.
