There is a very important ministry that we support that ministers to and helps the women who are imprisoned by the sex trade in Thailand. I thought you would like to read this email from the woman who runs this program. Two members of our Orphan’s Promise team were there recently for a visit and saw it all up close and personal, and can attest to the difficulty of bringing these women out of lives of self-destruction.
We just received an update and report about their joyous Christmas celebration and the results of what has been going on in their lives. (The name of the woman who runs this is not given due to safety concerns.)
Writes:
We had our NL Christmas party the 21st. We had an amazing time of worship and I am continually in awe of these beautiful precious women singing their hearts out to this awesome God who has redeemed their lives.
One of my favorite parts of the evening was watching the children, the next generation, dressed up nicely but running around full of confidence and joy. The kids put on a cute little puppet show typical of most shows trying to keep toddlers in a pooh bear (I think it may have been part of the nativity?) and sheep costume in place. It was darling and I love seeing these precious kids starting out life knowing the love of Christ.
We had a party in the soi 4 (red light) building on the 19th, put on by the IRIS team that was here. It was an open house party to invite the neighborhood to come in and get to know us. We had around 35 people come in for food, to get their nails done, feet washed, and to feel loved. It was beautiful. Mint, one of our employees came to help out. She went out to the street to bring in her friends. When she came back she was beaming and so excited. She said her friend wanted to know why Mint has changed so much? She said she wanted to know about this God who had made such a difference in Mint’s life. Mint brought her so that she could know more. The friend stayed a long time enjoying the peaceful and warm atmosphere and Mint was able to share with her about the God who has changed her life forever.
Recently, Mint gave her testimony and one of the things that stood out to me was her words that, “The women on the street are searching for a tangible happiness through sex, money, drugs, alcohol…anything they can get their hands on, but it is only temporary. They look happy but underneath they are empty. I know because I used to be that way. Now I don’t have the same kind of money but I have a deeper happiness that I cannot put words to.” These are the words that make everything we do so much worth the effort. God brings the transformation but we would not be part of it without your faithfulness. This testimony is in part possible, because of all that you do. Thank you!
Transitioning these women out of the trade of sex for money can be a long-term investment as they come from extreme poverty and this is the only way they know to make money. Letting them see that there is a better way, and healing from their old lives is only possible through the love of Christ.
