New Hope for Congo

Dear Friends,

Since 1998, 5.4 million people have died in Congo. The death toll is equivalent of an Asian Tsunami every 6.5 months, or a Sept. 11 disaster every 2 1/2 days.

Half the deaths in the Congo are children under 5.

Statistics like these are hard to ignore. At Orphan’s Promise we have a heart for the children of Africa and are currently working in the Congo. We have provided a home and helped rescue over 134 children who had been brutally raped by Congolese Rebels.

It is encouraging to learn that the First Lady of the Congo is a devout Christian and even though she is shy personally, she has appeared at rallies encouraging the people of Congo to fast and pray for their country. I am so heartened to hear this.

Following is a link to hear her story by CBN reporter, George Thomas:

It is my hope that in the future, we will be able to meet the First Lady and worth together in some way to help meet the needs of many more children who are in desperate need.
